Apple Releases watchOS 3 To The Public


Apple has officially announced that its latest and greatest wearable operating system, as well as the latest entry in the watchOS family, watchOS 3, has now began rolling out to all compatible Apple-based smartwatches for download and update.

watchOS 3 brings some new features as well as other enhancements like:

  • Faster access to your favorite apps with updated information
  • Choose from a variety of faces, and customize them with an even bigger selection of useful apps
  • Share your Activity rings with friends and family for motivation
  • The Activity app has been optimized for wheelchair users, taking into account different pushing techniques for varying speeds and terrain
  • The ability to view up to five workout metrics all at once including distance, pace, active calories, heart rate, and elapsed time
  • The Breathe app guides you through a series of deep breaths that can help you better manage everyday stress or just experience a few calming moments
  • You can now set off fireworks, stick a sticker, and share a secret with invisible ink in messages 
  • Use the Home app to manage all your HomeKit-enabled devices from your watch
  • Press and hold the side button and no matter where you are in the world, SOS initiates a call with local emergency services
  • The ability to unlock your Mac without typing your password
  • Now you can securely pay within apps using Apple Pay right from your watch

Reminder: To install the update, the Apple Watch must have 50 percent battery, it must be placed on the charger, and it must be in range of the iPhone

watchOS 3 is now available to download as a free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone (must be running iOS 10) by going to General > Software Update.
