Netflix Launches Cellular Data Controls

Following the announcement of Google Play Billing support for Android earlier last week, the global provider of streaming movies and TV series has officially revealed the latest update coming to its Netflix application, Cellular Data Controls.

With Cellular Data Controls, Netflix users will be able to choose from five different settings including:

  • Off - Watch on Wi-Fi only
  • Low - Watch about 4 hours per GB
  • Medium - Watch about 2 hours per GB
  • High - Watch about 1 hour per GB
  • Unlimited - only recommended to users with unlimited plan
Reminder: The default setting will enable you to stream about 3 hours of TV shows and movies per GB of data. In terms of bitrates, that currently amounts to about 600 Kilobits per second. Although, streaming on Wi-Fi is not affected nor is streaming when tethered

According to Netflix "We are always working on ways to improve picture quality while streaming more efficiently" The company continued "We hope this will help you enjoy Netflix for those times that you are out and about, and we’ll continue to work to deliver a great streaming experience whether you are on a TV, computer, or a phone, and whether you are at home or on the go".

Cellular Data Controls is now rolling out around the world to all users running the latest version of the Netflix app on Android and iOS devices.
