Google Project Fi Goes Invite-Free

Following the announcement of Project Fi Data-Only SIM late last year, Google is back once again with some pretty exciting news and has announced that its mobile virtual network operator, also know as Project Fi, has now gone invite-free in North Amirica.

With Project Fi going invite-free, users all over the US will get the chance to:

  • Automatically connects to the best network between Wi-Fi and LTE networks (including Sprint and T-Mobile)
  • Start a call over Wi-Fi and walk outside, Project Fi detects when your signal becomes weak and seamlessly moves your call over to a cell network
  • The ability to get your unused data credited in dollars and cents, so you only pay for what you use
  • Choose between two different plans, Fi Basics ($20 per month) with unlimited domestic talk and text, unlimited international texts, and the ability to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot or $10 per 1GB for data with no annual contract required
Reminder: Project Fi only works with the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, and Nexus 6P for now, with more devices to be supported later on.

According to Google "We’d like to say ‘thank you’ to all our Project Fi customers for providing insights and feedback over the past 10 months. While Project Fi is still in its early stages, we’re excited to welcome our next wave of customers and look forward to growing and improving together".

Last but not least, Google is offering the Nexus 5X starting at $199 for the next month when you buy and activate through Project Fi. Project Fi is now available across North America for anyone to sign up for the service without having to wait in-line for an invite.
