Google Announces Project Fi Expansion

Following the announcement of Project Fi about eight months ago, Google has officially announced that the company is now expanding its Network program that "put you on the best network wherever you go", on non-Nexus devices thanks to the Project Fi data-only SIM.

With Project Fi data-only SIM, select Google as well as Apple-based mobile devices will be able to connect to the fastest available network at your location, whether it's free open Wi-Fi hotspots that have been verified as fast and reliable, or one of the company's two partner LTE networks (Sprint and T-Mobile).

Although, Project Fi was first only compatible with the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P devices. Project Fi data-only SIM will offer the same features to other devices including:

  • Nexus 7 - K009 (US LTE)
  • Nexus 9 - 0P82300 (US LTE)
  • iPad Air 2 - Model A1567
  • iPad mini 4 - Model A1550
  • Galaxy Tab S - Model SM-T807V
Project Fi data-only SIMs can now be ordered by going to Project Fi website > in the Account tab, go to Your Plan > select Add data-only SIM > and follow the instructions to order your SIM.
