Qualcomm Introducing Snapdragon 820

Qualcomm has officially revealed its latest and greatest SoC (system on a chip), as well as the latest member joining the Snapdragon family, the Snapdragon 820, delivering a successors to last year's infamous Snapdragon 810 that offers "ultra-fast performance, leading connectivity, strong security, and long battery life".

The Snapdragon 820 is manufactured on the 14nm FinFET process and features a custom 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo processor clocked at up to 2.2GHz, Adreno 530 GPU, Hexagon 680 DSP, UFS 2.0 or eMMC 5.1 storage, LPDDR4 1866MHz dual-channel, USB 3.0/2.0 support, Advanced Spectra Camera ISP that support up to 28MP, and 4K displays support.

The 820 comes with with 2x performance and efficiency as well as 40% improvement to graphics when compared to the 810, Quick Charge 3.0 (38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0), VIVE 802.11ac 2x2 MU-MIMO Tri-band Wi-Fi, X12 LTE with both LTE Cat 12/13 support, as well as 4K recording and playback with support for H.264 and H.265 formats.

According to Qualcomm " The Snapdragon 820 has been holistically designed around enriching visual quality and audio clarity, as well as developing more intuitive ways to interact with devices, to generate deeply immersive experiences" The company continued "For those who think smartphone innovation has peaked, keep an eye out for new smartphones powered by Snapdragon 820 next year".

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is expected to be powering some of next years' Android and Windows 10 Mobile flagships, if not all of them.
