To address the price boost, HTC released a statement saying that the $399.99 price tag was only for a "very limited-time promotional offer", and that once the promotional is over, the phone will be sold for $499.99. The company has also revealed that the reason behind UK's higher prices is that HTC is offering its retail partners "the freedom to set prices and promotions as they see fit for local market needs", which resulted in prices like Carphone Warehouse's £469.99 (about $720) and Buymobiles' £479.99 (about $736) price tag.
According to HTC "The cost of the HTC One A9 is the same worldwide to all distributors and operator partners. For end consumers, HTC's sales regions are given the freedom to set prices and promotions as they see fit for local market needs".
The HTC One A9 will be available for $499.99 in US starting November 7, while UK residents can now pre-order it starting at $644.
