Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Officially Announced


Mojang in collaboration with Microsoft has officially announced the latest installment in the Minecraft series, Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, delivering a "a whole new version of Minecraft, while offering Windows 10 users a chance to be creative and participate in the Minecraft universe.

However, similar to previous first releases of Minecraft, the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft will be called Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta for now, as it continues to develop and evolve over time, while all future updates are said to be released at no additional cost. The studio has also announced that this new edition will be sharing some features from previous Minecraft editions.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta features:

  • Creative and Survival game modes
  • Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online
  • Play online and local multiplayer with other Pocket Edition players thanks to a free update, due to arrive soon after launch
  • Multiple control schemes! Switch between controller, touch, and keyboard controls with little to no effort!
  • Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR
  • Help shape the future of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta with our built player feedback mechanisms
  • Chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness you’ve come to expect from Minecraft
Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will be available starting July 29 on Windows 10 for $10, while players who already own the PC edition of Minecraft, A.K.A. the Java version, will get it for free.
