Google Announces Android M

Google has officially announced its latest and greatest software product, as well as the latest update coming to Android OS, Android M, delivering improvements to Android's core user experience, that ranges from bug fixes all the way to "big changes to the fundamentals of the platform".

Android M will be introducing new features including:

  • Fingerprint support for payments and unlocking your device
  • Android Pay: will allow for simplified, secure, and open source payment for both in-app and in-stores purchases
  • USB-C support for fast data transfer and charging, with reversible plug orientation
Android M will also be featuring improvements such as:
  • Permissions: giving users control over app permissions
  • App links: making it even easier to link between apps
  • Battery: "Doze" will enable Android devices will become even more smarter about managing power, with up to 2x standby time
  • Simplified volume controls
  • Under the hood tweaks
The Android M Developer Preview will be available later today for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player devices, while the official Android M edition will be released this Fall.
