Norwegian army test out Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift started as a gaming device and before even getting out of the Development Stage, it’s already getting attention from the Military.

The Norwegian army is testing out the Rift with tank drivers who have to cope with a very limited field of vision inside their hulking armored vehicles. Combined with a custom 360-degree camera system, drivers can essentially seethrough their tank with Oculus Rift.

The Norwegian army’s solution relies on the head tracking tech built into the visor. Each cameras mounted on the exterior streams a live view to a computer that merges them into a single panoramic scene. The driver is able to look around the outside of the tank simply by turning your head.
