The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has developed a new system for wireless charging that can power up to 40 smartphones at the same time from up to five meters away, which will make power cords a thing of the past.
The system is called the Dipole Coil Resonant System, and while it’s still in prototype phase, It essentially uses 2 long magnetic coils to power devices through inductive charging. Not only could it charge your mobile devices, but it could also power things like your TV.
The technology is still pretty expensive for consumers, but the researchers think it could soon be used for public spaces to offer charging, and to create completely wireless offices and homes.
